emilysculpts:

Here is some more progress on the Nightmare Moon sculpture.  The first image shows the finished armor as well as the tail and wings prior to sanding.  The mane is still raw wire mesh here; that stuff is great for flowing hair or fabric.

I tried something new this time; I didn’t sculpt the attachment points for the wings or tail.  This helped me a LOT during sanding.  I was able to pose the limbs as I was sanding them and it also eliminated the cracking that normally happens due to stress around the attachment point.  After sanding, I used Apoxie sculpt to fill in the gap.  This also makes the joint much stronger than just regular Sculpey.

The next two images show the current state of this sculpture.  I suck at taking photos, but her hero side looks AWESOME!  Can’t wait for my husband to get photographs of this.  Anyways, I am about 12 hours in at this point.  I am moving on to the base and getting Luna worked in next.  Nightmare Moon is going to be appearing to her in a sort of dream or vision.  I am excited!
